Their faces have been worn smooth by the hooves of draft horses, the shoes of farmers, and the boots of soldiers from distant lands. Those stones too worn to see another year of action have been replaced, the new shiny surfaces distinctly out of synch with the well-worn patina of their older cousins.

Less than 30 days from now, 215 men and women will start riding in the "world's toughest bicycle race," the Race Across America (RAAM). These international competitors begin racing June 7 on a 3,000-mile route stretching from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland. Ultra-endurance cyclists race continuously day and night, on their own or riding as part of a relay team supported by a crew of 8 to15 people who follow in support cars and RV's with food and supplies for the race.

The Portuguese had plenty to cheer about today in Lisbon as the country's favorite daughter Vanessa Fernandes won a record-breaking fifth consecutive European Championship.  In all it was her seventh European crown as she also owns a junior and under23 title. Italian veteran Nadia Cortassa took the silver, her fourth career medal at European championships. Swede Lisa Norden continued her breakthrough season with the bronze.

Just twenty miles north of the bright lights and lavish casinos in Las Vegas, Lisa Lieb (Durango, CO) and her partner Tom Lyons (Reno, NV) won it big – taking top honors at the 2008 Land Rover G4 Challenge Nevada Passage which wrapped up four days and 1,000 miles of adventure competition at the sandy Nellis Dunes this afternoon.

You can find triathlons, marathons, and 10K and 5K runs pretty much every weekend of the year all year long. But on Saturday June 21, at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, there is a very unique event called the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run that is totally geared towards the first-timer and the family. Two runners, one mountain bike, six miles of trails, five obstacles and one very sloppy mud pit. Sound like fun? It is! The best part is that each partner only runs three miles and rides three miles, one mile at a time. Last year Muddy Buddy sold out early, so enter today!
